The State of Wisconsin mandates certificates of title for the following watercraft types: • All motorized boats. • All sailboats measuring sixteen (16) feet or greater in length.
Exempt Vessels
The following watercraft are explicitly exempt from state titling requirements: • Vessels officially documented with the United States Coast Guard (USCG). • Sailboats under sixteen (16) feet in length.
Transaction Documentation Requirements
To process a ownership transfer or initial registration, the existing Certificate of Title must be submitted directly alongside a completed Wisconsin Boat Registration and Titling Application.
