Vessels Requiring Titling & Registration
The following vessels must be registered and titled when operated on the "Waters of this state": • All mechanically-propelled vessels. • Sailboats over twelve (12) feet in length. Statutory Definition: "Waters of this state" means any waters within the territorial limits of this state and the marginal sea adjacent to this state and the high seas when navigated as a part of a journey or ride to or from the shore of this state. This definition does not include privately-owned ponds or lakes not open to the public. O.C.G.A. §52-7-3(26) Required Registration Documentation: 1. Proof of Ownership (e.g., a Bill of Sale or legal document proving ownership transfer). 2. Signed Georgia Vessel Registration Application. 3. Special items as applicable: - GA vessels transferring with a printed title instead of a standard digital eTitle. - Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) if the vessel is brand new. - Homemade Vessel Inspection Report (if the vessel lacks a HIN and has never been registered before).
