Massachusetts Names New Boating Law Administrator

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is pleased to welcome Captain Erik Tynan, the new Boating Law Administrator (BLA) for the state of Massachusetts. 

Captain Erik Tynan, a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, has dedicated his career to marine safety and law enforcement. He graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where he earned a Third Mate License, a 100-ton captain’s license, and a commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

Captain Tynan began his career with the Massachusetts Environmental Police in the Boston area and has since worked across various facets of marine law enforcement, including recreational boating enforcement. He later served as a detective in the Boat and Recreational Vehicle Safety Bureau, where he investigated marine incidents and taught recreational boating safety.

Currently, Captain Tynan is the Deputy Chief of Special Operations at the Massachusetts Environmental Police, where he oversees specialized units and operations. He is also a NASBLA Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP).
