On August 31, 2023, NASBLA Chair Susan Stocker with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, passed the Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP) exam and was awarded her CRBP certification. The
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is pleased to recognize Susan Stocker as the seventh person to achieve the CRBP credential.
Stocker graduated in 1992 from Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor of Applied Science. In 1992, she began her career as a conservation officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Bureau. Stocker also graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy out of Des Moines, Iowa, and later graduated from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in 2004.
Stocker has served as Iowa's Boating Law Administrator (BLA) since 2009. She is the state's representative to NASBLA and is responsible for being the voice of the state on boating safety matters. In 2011, Stocker graduated from the NASBLA Leadership Academy and was elected to the NASBLA Executive Board in 2018, currently serving her fifth year as a member of the board. As a member of the NASBLA Executive Board, she is responsible for moving recreational boating safety forward through education, enforcement, training and policy development on a national level – to the benefit of all states and territories.
In her current role as Education Coordinator, Stocker analyzes Boating Accident Report Database (BARD) results and develops policies for improving public education and law enforcement compliance. In addition to this, Stocker works to expand Iowa’s current boating safety program to include development of educational curricula, public outreach programs, and recruitment of volunteer instructors, as well as ensuring that Iowa’s boating rules and regulations remain in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard guidelines.
