Wisconsin names new Boating Law Administrator
Lt. Darren Kuhn
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is excited to welcome Lieutenant Darren Kuhn, the new Boating Law Administrator (BLA) for the state of Wisconsin.

Lt. Kuhn's effective start date was April 25, 2021 and he will be stationed out of the Green Bay DNR Office.

Lt. Kuhn just completed his twenty-third year as a Wisconsin Conservation Warden, where he spent most of his career working on or in the vicinity of Lake Michigan, assigned to the Marine Enforcement Unit out of the Green Bay area. Most recently Lt. Kuhn was assigned to the Recreation Warden Team. This team focuses on operating while intoxicated (OWI) enforcement and serious and/or fatal recreational vehicle accidents.

In addition to his normal work duties, Lt. Kuhn is very involved in the training section as a field training officer and instructor. Lt. Kuhn is a Wisconsin Department of Justice certified vehicle contacts and emergency vehicle operations instructor, NHTSA standardized field sobriety instructor, NSBC Open Waters/Close Quarters Instructor, NASBLA BUI instructor, Tactical Boat Instructor, Pursue and Stop Instructor and BOSAR instructor. Lt. Kuhn instructs at the Wisconsin DNR recruit academy, in-service training and partner municipal patrol agencies. He also serves on the Tactical Boat and ROV/Sonar Mission Ready Teams.

When Lt. Kuhn is not working, he and his wife, Marci, can be found either at a soccer field with their 13-year-old daughter Emi, or the track/cross county course with their 16-year-old son, TJ. Lt. Kuhn and his family enjoy traveling and seeing different parts of this great country and abroad. Emi has made it abundantly clear that if the NASBLA conference is ever in Hawaii, Lt. Kuhn will not be leaving her home. TJ was disappointed that Lt. Kuhn was promoted to the BLA role after the conference was in Alaska, as that’s his dream vacation. When time permits, Lt. Kuhn enjoys waterfowl, pheasant, turkey, bear and deer hunting.

Lt. Kuhn is extremely excited to have the opportunity to represent the State of Wisconsin as the Boating Law Administrator and is looking forward to getting involved with NASBLA in his new role. Lt. Kuhn looks forward to meeting and working with all of you in the future to push the boating programs in our respective states forward.
