This grant is used produce a series of Boating Under the Influence (BUI) Detection and Enforcement Training Courses to provide state and local marine patrol officers, Coast Guard boarding officers, and others with the comprehensive knowledge and technical skills necessary to reduce the number of alcohol-related accidents and fatalities and to foster a stronger and more visible deterrent to alcohol use on the water. There is significant demand for on-site training in the states both to encourage greater uniformity in the application of the curriculum and to move toward greater standardization of BUI enforcement policies and reciprocity nationwide. NASBLA will conduct three of the 24-hour BUI Officer courses, one of the 24-hour BUI Train-the-Trainer courses, and one of the BUI Transition courses.
