Safe
& Enjoyable Boating
What's NASBLA?
The
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is the
professional association representing the recreational boating authorities of
all 50 states and the U.S. territories.
NASBLA’s mission is to strengthen the ability of the state and territorial
boating authorities to reduce death, injury and property damage associated with
recreational boating and ensure a safe, secure and enjoyable boating
environment.
Strategic
Programs -- NASBLA
addresses its mission by fostering partnerships among and between the states,
the Coast Guard and others, crafting model boating laws, maintaining national
education and training standards, providing members with critical knowledge and
skills, assisting in the homeland security challenges on our waterways, and
advocating the needs of the state boating programs before Congress and federal
agencies.
Vision
Statement –
NASBLA envisions a national recreational boating program where the number and
severity of recreational boating accidents are substantially reduced and
boating-related deaths virtually eliminated, where family-oriented fun and
personal responsibility are valued in equal proportions, where universal boater
education is the rule rather than the exception, and where boating laws and
regulations are seamlessly applied across state lines.
Core
Values Statement
– Collectively, NASBLA members value consensus, collegiality, egalitarianism,
integrity and a sense of fair play both in their decision-making among members
and among and between NASBLA and its strategic partners.
Strategic Goals – As a means of achieving its mission, NASBLA has the
following strategic goals:
- Provide
national leadership and advocacy to focus policies and resources on
reducing risks in recreational boating and in waterway security.
- Provide
models and standards that foster best practices and uniformity among the
states and territories.
- Provide
professional development opportunities and other products and services
that benefit members.
- Identify
and employ the highest professional standards and best practices in
governing, administering and measuring the performance of the association.
