Reviewers

As the third On-Water Standard gains American National Standards Institute (ANSI) recognition, the U.S. Coast Guard would like to promote the use of these new standards by promoting a process to issue on-water course providers a “Verified Course Mark” for course content, which has been verified through a third-party review process as meeting the designated American National Standard. This “Mark” will serve as a recognizable symbol to ensure the public they are receiving a quality course from a provider whose class content is consistent with the NOWS.

To ensure the integrity and maintain the value of the “Verified Course Mark”, the USCG has funded development of this voluntary, third party verification process through a national non-profit grant awarded to NASBLA. To ensure the validity and impartiality of the “Verified Course Mark”, NASBLA developed a verification process that adheres to International Standards for third party review processes.

As part of this process, we are seeking applicants interested in working on three-member teams comprised of subject matter experts from the power, human or sail powered disciplines. Selected team members must be willing to review materials, remain objective, and complete assigned tasks within designated timelines. The applicant selection process is designed to identify and minimize any real or potential conflict of interest an applicant may have for a specific course. Selected applicants will receive training and a small stipend for completed work.

If you are interested in being part of the NASBLA administered third-party course verification panel, please send your name and contact information to Pam Dillon at NASBLA (pam@nasbla.org) with “On-Water Verification Member” in the subject line before June 30, 2017. We will send out a detailed summary of the verification process, reviewer duties, and participation application to all interested parties. NASBLA will keep a roster of all qualified candidates. Qualified candidates will be selected based upon the number and needs of the courses being validated.
